About Andy
Author of historical fiction and more.

AAG Whitehead is the ‘pen name’ of the former fire fighter, parish councillor and resident of West Auckland, Andy Whitehead.Born in the West Riding of Yorkshire in the very early 60’s. The author followed his father into engineering before moving to the Algarve where he ran his own wine bar. On returning to England the author’s career then included 26 years within the fire service seeing him join as a fire fighter, riding the fire appliances and taking orders, up to his role at retirement of being an operational fire officer who was to give those orders.

During his time in the Fire Service he served as an instructor in their training school developing his skills as a communicator to a full range of audiences, both Fire Service and civilian, alike. It was these skills that saw him chosen for many live television interviews as well as being the Fire Service front for the Channel Five programme 999. As a senior Fire Officer he specialised in Wildfire, Water Rescue and RTC’s which he sat on national groups and was regularly involved with nationwide strategies.

For many years he was intrigued by the human reaction to being given an order which could obviously put the receiver into harm’s way. In this modern era of health and safety where giving inappropriate orders can and will lead to certain consequences, it was hard for him to understand the justification of a war of attrition such as those of the past, the greatest example of this being World War One.

Risk should always be weighed against benefit. How this principle could be seen in the actions and strategies of senior commanders in that and many other wars is a mystery to the author. It was this fascination and his vivid imagination that drew him into writing about military conflict.

The author as several books published and many more manuscripts completed, ready for submission or under production.
